I live in the island city of Portsmouth and celebrate its people in my writing.
Coming from a naval family and married to a sailor I know about: “living between the tides of men at sea and men at home and existing on paper kisses.”
As a mature student, blessed with a grant, I studied English and history. My degree gave me the courage to start writing. I met my editor Carolyn Caughey, at the Winchester Writers’ conference, and submitted my first novel to her. To my excitement, ‘Waiting for the Tide,’ was accepted. Five more novels followed. See them by clicking on the Books page.
I discovered that writing is a long apprenticeship. Reading widely is essential to the craft. You need to be your own best critic and have stickability. I take pride in my novels; my 52 year old marriage and that my children still love me.
